Recreation

The Alvord City park has a lot of amenities to share with the community. These include a basketball court, baseball field, sand volleyball court, playground, a frisbee golf course, and shelter house with restrooms and showers. New playground equipment was installed in July 2020!

The Community Center and Park Shelter House are both great facilities. The community center features a stove, microwave, and fridge. There is a large area that is great for gatherings, such as weddings, graduation parties, or family reunions. The park shelter house features a large room with fridge and counter-space, great for outdoor barbecues and other social gatherings. There are restrooms at both facilities and a shower in the shelter house. They are available for reservations. 

The new Community & Recreation Center project is officially underway in April 2024. In February of 2023, the Alvord Betterment Committee (ABC Club) approached the City Council regarding a new community and recreation center for our town. After much discussion and planning, the ABC Club presented an idea to move the old fire hall off Main Street and build the new recreation center next to the park. The new center will have Basketball hoops, Volleyball nets, a kitchen, exercise equipment, and an area for bus drop-off and pick-up. Click on the button below for more information.

Our Lending Library and Little Free Library are located in the City Office Building. Feel free to take a book or leave a book. The Rule of Thumb is: a free book-sharing box where anyone may take a book or share a book. They function on the honor system. You do not need to share a book in order to take one. If you take a book or two from a little library, try to bring some to share to that same library, or another in your area, when you can. 

The campground includes 5 cement camping pads with electricity at each site. There is a water hydrant on one end available for use. The Park Shelter house has a bathroom and shower facility. The sites are available as first come, first serve and are $10 per night. Please drop your payment in the door slot of the City Office. There is no dump station.

Alvord Day's is our annual town celebration held on the first Saturday of June. We generally have a parade, kids activities, breakfast & supper, and our annual Daniel Boon fireworks show.
